Illustration of the water flow in the bio-reactor. The water (blue arrows) is pumped from the filter unit (right side of the figure) into the top of the first chamber in the bio-reactor. The water exits the chamber through a bottom grid and lead through a side-channel to the top of next chamber. The water flow in chamber number two follows the same principle as the first chamber, and the water is then brought into the airing unit placed after the bio-reactor. Circulation in each chamber is attained by air (red arrows) supplied from the bottom. Such water circulation ensures maximum retention time of the water inside the bio-reactor, and thereby also maximum utilization of the biological water treatment. Additional airing under the bottom grid counteract sedimentation. |
